Store closing presents big (& tall) opportunity for Broad Street

Torre Big and Tall, the men’s store next to the upcoming apartment building that’s replacing the former Broad Street Armory, is closing up shop after more than 30 years on the 1200 block of South Broad Street.

Owner Mark Rosenfeld told the Inquirer that he wanted to focus on his family after losing his wife of 32 years. He plans to put the building up for rent or sale when the shop closes sometime this spring.

It’s never good to see a longtime business go under, but this does present a big opportunity for Broad Street, with the development next door of a 50-unit apartment building.

So, should the developer of this new building try to snap up the Torre building and work it into his plan?

      I’m not sure, but I know that the lot it sits in is about 10,000. I think I know what you’re thinking, and that would be a great idea.

    I had the pleasure of knowing Mark while working at the Daily News. While I am sad to see this iconic store go, I wish him and his family all the happiness. Mark is a tremendous business man, incredibly caring and passionate and will be missed in the neighborhood.
