POPE and other South Philly spots featured in comic book

Flipping through the pages of a comic book, the last thing you expect to see is a depiction of POPE, Via Bicycle and other South Philly spots.

A new comic book by Mike Jasorka called That Bike depicts some South Philly landmarks just like those.

Here’s what Jasorka had to say to Philebrity:

THAT BIKE is a self-contained comic book story revolving around discovering a rare 1969 AMF (American Machine & Foundry) “muscle” bicycle on a rooftop in South Philadelphia — in particular, on the rooftop of Pub On Passyunk East. The book is a historic embracement/journalistic approach I took to Americana with what’s considered praised relic.

The other Philly landmarks included are other businesses off Passyunk Ave: The bike shop that brought it “back to life” was Via Bicycle. On my trip after first rescuing the bike, complete with flat ties to Via Bicycle, I walked in the rain passed various “landmarks” including both Pat’s and Geno’s steaks. Also, I make note of Chris’ Jazz Café and Ray’s Happy Birthday Bar — places my friends would perform Jazz at. Other than that, there are other perspectives and scenes that South Philadelphians may recognize.

The comic book is being released through Bombshell Comics. More information can be found here.
