First Pics: El Sarape opens new location at 1304 S. 9th St.

El Zarape previously occupied the space at 1648 E. Passyunk Ave., but because of an increase in rent, they were forced to move out of that space, which is now occupied by Bing Bing Dim Sum.

Their old spot closed back in March and the new location opened sometime in mid-February at 1304 S. 9th St.

Wondering what the deal is with the name change El Zarape to El Sarape? Apparently when first opening, it was supposed to be Sarape, but a mistake in signage made them change it to Zarape. So this new location was the perfect excuse to go back to the name originally intended for the restaurant.

The new location offers the same Mexican options as before, but with some bigger plans for the future.

Currently the restaurant is only open daily from 3 p.m. through 10 p.m. for dinner, but by May, they hope to be serving breakfast, lunch and dinner.

El Sarape also plans to acquire a liquor license for this new location.

Currently you can order takeout from the restaurant on Grub Hub, but they plan to redesign their website with a platform to allow for ordering directly through them, instead of Grub Hub.

The eat-in portion of the restaurant is on 9th St., but if you order takeout, you will soon be able to pick it up over at 1303 E. Passyunk Ave.

The location can also accommodate for parties up to 100 people.

As you can see, the Mexican flag is a huge part of the restaurant’s decor.

From March 10 through 20, El Sarape is offering a special of buy one get one free entrees in honor of their reopening.

What do you think of the new location?

This is great news! Is the BOGO entrees in the dining room only or will it be through Grub Hub as well?

I wish Armando much success in his new location. It was nice having him for a next door neighbor here on Passyunk Ave.
