First Pics: Miss Demeanor now open in former Tom’s Prime Meats location

Back in June of 2014 we first told you about Miss Demeanor opening in the former Tom’s Prime Meats location at 1729 E. Passyunk Ave.

Although the tattered awning from the old Tom’s still remains, the shop owners are working to get a new awning soon.

Last week this women’s clothing store finally opened up shop here on the avenue.

Seeing that this boutique was opening in a former meat shop, quite a bit of work had to be done to make the space retail-ready.

To connect better with the East Passyunk Avenue community, shop owner Julia Grassi aimed to keep some of the existing fixtures from Tom’s Prime Meats to bring some East Passyunk Avenue history to her new location.

As you can see, Miss Demeanor has kept the neon sign from Tom’s Prime Meats, in addition to utilizing some of the counter space, meat hooks and more.

This new East Passyunk Avenue shop is Miss Demeanor’s second location. Their other shop is located in Cape May, NJ. Both Miss Demeanor locations are jointly owned by the mother and daughter team of Julia and her mother Kate.

The store carries only items that are made in the United States, or are fair trade. The items carried in the store range from basic clothing staples to dresses for special occasions. The shop also carries plus size apparel whenever possible.

In the future, Grassi says that they will be adding more clothing racks, in addition to more styles of clothing and accessories in stock.

Grassi is also learning to sew and hopes to start creating things for sale in the store.

Can’t wait to stop in and check out this new shop! It looks like a lovely addition to neighborhood…very stylish clothes at an affordable price. And I love the nods to the old butcher shop. Welcome to the avenue Miss Demeanor!

Love what they did with the interior. The facade is still looking pretty rough, though – thought I had heard at one point that it was supposed to get a re-do before opening? Hopefully still going to happen?

They are sticking with most of the facade, which fits with some of the old-timey vibe inside, but that ratty awning is definitely going away.
